In September 2017, Ricardo took up the position of Deputy Secretary General at Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF) International, leading all support functional areas at MSF: Human Resources, Finance, Fundraising, Supply, Logistics and Information Systems.
Ricardo has been working at MSF since 2004, first as Finance Coordinator and then as Project Manager. He served as Deputy Country Director in different field missions (Kenya, Somalia, Jordan, Syria, Guinea-Bissau and Darfur), as well as in the Barcelona headquarters, where he led the implementation of SAP in the finance area. In 2012, Ricardo became MSF International Finance Coordinator.
Before working in the humanitarian world, Ricardo worked as Chief Accounting and Cost Controlling Officer at the shipyard of Navantia in Cadiz for five years.
He is an alumnus of the European School of Management and Technology and holds a Bachelor’s in business administration and a Master’s in financial audit from the University of Cadiz. MSF has trained Ricardo in humanitarian interventions.
After living in Geneva for six years, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2017. In his free time, he loves reading, goes hiking, enjoys spending time with family and friends, and plays the guitar with friends’ rock bands. He speaks fluent Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.
